The Paths We Take

This is my first blog post... ever. I've thought a lot about documenting my thoughts and I figured, now is as good of a time as any.

Recently I have started to reflect on my life and how it has ended up. If you would've asked me in high school where I thought I would be when I was 25, I probably would have said I'd be married, have 1 child - 1 on the way, be working as a pharmacist, making big bucks and living the good life. Let's see how I did:

Married: Check.

I have the best husband that I could have ever dreamed of having. We've been together over 7 years and we still aren't sick of each other. I love everything about him. Everything. He does this thing where he "accidentally" matches whatever outfit I'm wearing when we go out together. He thinks I don't notice, but I do and I think it's adorable.

Have 1 Child - 1 on the Way: Well, Sorta.

Maverick

Kimber
Meet my stand-ins. Maverick is 5.5 and Kimber will be 2 in January. They add a little flavor to my otherwise boring life in a small town. They are the funniest pets I have ever known. As much as they may get on my nerves sometimes, I still can't help but love the little fur-balls. I guess these two are a pretty good substitute if we aren't going to have kids quite yet.

Pharmacist: Definitely Not.

For the longest time, I really wanted to  be a pharmacist. In high school I told my favorite teacher (who also happened to be my Chemistry teacher) that I wanted to be a pharmacist. She told me not to do it and that I would hate it. I had dollar signs blinding me, so I ignored her.  I went on to study Chemistry in college and got a job at a pharmacy in the mean time. Along the way I started really enjoying Chemistry and loathing my job. I decided that being a pharmacist was not for me. I guess I should have listened to Mrs. Horton after all. Go figure. I ended up with a degree in Chemistry and I found a job as a consultant and regulatory agent for chemical companies working directly with the EPA. I really love it. Things are different everyday, it's never boring and best of all, I never have to deal with people who need meds. Literally.

 Living the Good Life: CHECK.

So, this is the view from my backyard. I live in a town with 1 stoplight. My neighborhood borders a cotton field. Sometimes I have to wait for chickens to get out of the road before I can be on my way. I spend all day with my sweet husband on Saturdays and I get to do crafts on Sundays. My mom is a phone call away whenever I need her and my brother never forgets about me when he comes anywhere near South Georgia. I have some of the best friends that anyone could ask for. Some are near, some are far, but they are all right there if I need them.

Never in a million years would I have guessed where I would be when I was 25. Looking back, I didn't end up where I thought I would, but I really love everything about my life. I'm not entirely sure that I would be enjoying my life as much had I ended up in the life I had planned. In the end, the path I took wasn't a well lit path, but I found the way. Now, I feel like a new chapter of my life is beginning. I've got it together and I'm ready for the next phase. Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be full of things to love.
